Dr. David McClellan has been a orofessor of biological science at UAFS since 2013. He served as department head from 2013 to 2018 and department chair since 2022. Previously he was a senior research scientist at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, bioinformatics (2008-2013); assistant professor of integrative biology at Brigham Young University, evolutionary bioinformatics, (2001-2008). His personal education experiences include a fellowship with the Institute of Statistical Mathematics / Tokyo Institute of Technology (1999-2001); Ph.D. candidate at Louisiana State University, Museum of Natural Science (1994-1999); M.S. candidate at Brigham Young University, genetics (1992-1994); and B.S. candidate at Brigham Young University, zoology (1988-1991). He has been the recipient of more than $13 million in research grants.

In addition to his educational and research experience, he has also held positions as editor-in-chief and managing editor for the Journal of Arkansas Academy of Science (2022-present); UAFS liaison to the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education, (2022-present); Mercy Hospital Fort Smith Patient Safety Committee, Quality Management Council, and Patient Family Advisory Council (2021-present); and Mercy Hospital Fort Smith Board of Trustees (2014-2021), including the position of chairman (2016-2021).
