Dr. Maurice Testa obtained his bachelor's degree in geoscience from Austin Peay State University. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on the DMark Project, a FEMA project to evaluate the precision of GPS mobile devices utilized by emergency personnel in response to Hurricane Katrina's impact in Louisiana. He earned both his master's degree and Ph.D. at Mississippi State University, focusing on carbonate precipitation in marine environments through the use of organic molecules. His research also included carbonate basin analysis of the Laborcita Formation and the Permian Reef Complex in Guadalupe, Texas. Dr. Testa's research interests encompass sedimentology, stratigraphy, field imaging, and paleontology.
