Career Services Hosts Job Search Courses, ArcBest Recruiting Event
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, will host a networking and open interview opportunity for students interested in working with ArcBest Corporation from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Latture Conference Center.
“This event is more than an email or video interview but is a handshake and a face-to-face conversation. It’s an opportunity to learn about future employment and be ready for professional networking,” said Susan Krafft, executive director of Career Services and the Babb Center for Student Professional Development.
ArcBest is a multibillion-dollar integrated logistics company that leverages technology and a full suite of shipping and logistics solutions to meet customers’ supply chain needs. Representatives from multiple departments from logistics to human resources will discuss career opportunities including available full-time, part-time, and student worker positions.
According to Krafft, ArcBest is one of the largest local employers of UAFS alumni, with more than 400 working on its Fort Smith campuses, and an ardent supporter of the campus community. “ArcBest is an integral part of the Fort Smith community. There are full-time positions available, and this event would allow upcoming grads to discuss potential employment after they walk across the stage,” she said.
The UAFS Career Services office prepares students to network with potential employers, make a great first impressions, perfect their personal elevator speech, and create a stand-out professional cover letter and resume. “Businesses and companies in the River Valley have an amazing talent pipeline right here with our UAFS students and alumni,” said Krafft. “and Career Services hopes to be the connector that brings them together.”
In addition to Wednesday’s ArcBest recruiting event, UAFS Career Services is also hosting events throughout the month to help students prepare for their job searches.
Utilizing LinkedIn in Your Job Search

This session assists students in utilizing LinkedIn in their job search and provides information on how to develop their LinkedIn portfolio, build their professional network, join groups, and use LinkedIn to research employers.
Job Search Workshop (Senior-Level)

Hosted by Career Services and the Babb Center for Student Professional Development
This session assists students in their job search strategy. The session includes where to look for jobs, apply for jobs, research jobs, and effectively utilize the internet in the job search, network, and resume tips.
Advanced Resume Writing (Senior-Level)
Thursday, April 21, 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.

Hosted by Career Services and the Babb Center for Student Professional Development
The senior-level resume writing session is a follow-up to the Basic Resume Writing class. This session provides information on how to revise a resume from a “Job Duties” based resume (developed in the Basic Resume Writing session) to a “Skills and Accomplishments” based resume. This session provides templates for the students to use, and the resume students will generally use when seeking a full-time position.
