Black History Month Slate Announced

Written By: Rachel Rodemann Putman

Throughout February, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith will honor and celebrate Black History Month with a slate of events hosted by the Black Student Association, Men of Excellence, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UAFS.

The slate features a mix of virtual and in-person events centered around the Black experience in the River Valley.

I am very excited to see the campus and Fort Smith community take part in our 2022 Black History Month activities,” said John Blue, executive director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UAFS. “Our educational events will showcase Black history here in the state of Arkansas, and I believe the discussions will be impactful.”

“Black History Month is special to me,” said Keanan Glover, president of the Black Student Association. “It is the time of year I feel proudest being in my own skin. It is a time for me to celebrate how far we have come as a culture and how far we still plan to go! Most importantly, it is a special time to give thanks to those who have paved this road for me and to those who never got a chance to see just how much their efforts have impacted our world today.”

Throughout the month, the UAFS social media team will share stories of Black students, faculty, and staff, and the Boreham Library will host a Black History Month exhibit in the main lobby.
