Educate to Eradicate Panel to Speak at UAFS
As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) events at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, the Men of Excellence (MOX) and the Office of Title IX are hosting Educate to Eradicate, a panel discussion about sexual assault and ways
to prevent it.
The panel will feature UAFS police and local law enforcement to educate and bring
awareness to a serious topic that impacts many. A primary focus of the discussion
will be on current trends and prevention at UAFS and in the community.
The event on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Windgate Art and Design
Theatre is free and open to the public. Organizers believe educating their peers and
the public helps create an understanding of when certain things are or are not appropriate.
“Having law enforcement speak provides a mature perspective on this important topic
that I hope more people will listen to,” says MOX president Johnathan Brewer.
Educate to Eradicate returns for a second year in a row. Created in 2022 by MOX as
an event focused on creating awareness for sexual assault. April has been designated
as Sexual Assault Awareness Month on the UAFS campus, with the slate of events ending
on Wednesday, April 26, with Denim Day.
Denim Day was created after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction.
Justices felt that since the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped the perpetrator
remove her jeans, implying consent. Denim Day is a movement to show that your clothes
are not an excuse for sexual assault.
