Lion Voices: Khuong "Peter" Ta
Happy Friday, Lions! This week's #LionsVoices feature is senior Biochemistry major, Khuong “Peter” Ta. Peter graduated from Mena High School, but is originally from Vietnam, and first came to Arkansas as a high school exchange student.
Peter’s decision to come to UAFS was quite simple. “My parents and I thought it was best to stick to a closer college to Mena, so I chose UAFS.” Once Peter arrived at UAFS, he found an inclusive, supportive, and opportunity-rich environment. “Even though I am an international student, this place feels like my second home.”
Peter also highlighted the culture at UAFS as particularly appealing. Heavily involved in various activities on campus, he has served as a Cub Camp volunteer every year since he was a camper, and helped re-established the Vietnamese Student Association. Peter also currently holds the position of VSA Senior Advisor, and is a captain on the UAFS eSports Team. Peter is also a fraternity brother of Pi Kappa Phi, and has served on Student Government.
When asked what advice he would give incoming students to make the most of their time at UAFS he said, “Try everything. UAFS gives you so many opportunities, so why limit yourself to just one thing? There is more to college than being isolated and unsocial.” The people are Peter’s favorite aspect of UAFS. “Being involved extensively with this school has helped me grow as a person and learn all that I can.”
After graduation Peter intends to pursue a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and wants to be involved in Pharmaceuticals and drug development.
