Mane Event Q&A

Written By: Ian Silvester

Close to 300 incoming students filled the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus on Friday, June 16, 2023 for a new student orientation called Mane Event. The students will begin their journey as Lions in the fall of 2023 taking paths as student-athletes, health care professionals, artists and more.

Students will get the chance to connect with other incoming students, get a feel for the campus, meet with professors, and gather valuable information on how to succeed at UAFS.

We asked three incoming students to share their thoughts on this first Mane Event:

Charley Sharp of Greenwood

Charley Sharp of Greenwood will be majoring in Dental Hygiene. She attended Mane Event with her mom and immediately ran into friends from Greenwood High School. “By attending Mane Event, the first day of classes or move-in won’t be your first time on campus. At Mane Event, you get to meet people you’ll know, who you’ll take classes with, and some professors.”

Conrad Trezza of TexasConrad Trezza of Texas will be majoring in Marketing. He will attend UAFS in the fall as a cross-country runner for head coach Mason Rhodes. His parents helped make the trip to UAFS from Texas, and all three were eager to see the campus. Conrad said, “By coming to Mane Event, I won’t be completely lost in the fall. I’m going to have a sense of where things are and where my classes will be located.”

Presleigh Riggs of Pocola Presleigh Riggs of Pocola will be majoring in Psychology. She’s a third-generation UAFS legacy. Her mom and grandmother attended UAFS when it was known as Westark, and she is looking forward to following in their footsteps. “Getting to know the campus will be great. I’m excited to see the education I will receive, and I’m excited maybe to win a scholarship!”

Two more Mane Events will be held throughout the summer. The next will be held Friday, July 21. The final Mane Event will be held Friday, July 28.
