Praxis Exams to be Offered at UAFS

Written By: Ian Silvester

Fort Smith, AR - - The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will soon offer on-campus Praxis exams, removing one more barrier from the path of dedicated students who hope to become K-12 teachers.

The UAFS Academic Success Center (ASC) team, in partnership with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) will begin offering the Arkansas Praxis this May. The Praxis is a licensure and preparedness exam all education graduates must take as part of the process of becoming a certified teacher in the state of Arkansas. By becoming an exam location site, the ASC gives UAFS students and the River Valley community a centralized testing location on campus instead of at the Sylvan Learning Center or another institution.

Even UAFS students wishing to become a certified teacher in the state of Oklahoma will be able to test on campus. In addition to the Arkansas Praxis exam, students will be able to take the Oklahoma Praxis exam and scores will be sent to the Oklahoma State Department of Higher Education using state code 6503.

Jake Littlefield, operations coordinator for the ASC, says his team is excited about the opportunity to host the exam and its benefit to the entire community. “Our hope is that by becoming a Praxis testing center, we will be able to meet a need in our community and increase access to this essential assessment for our students.” he said.

Exams will be offered beginning on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the UAFS ASC, Vines 202, 5210 Grand Ave., Fort Smith. Through June, exams will be offered weekly with two additional exams at the end of July. The cost of exams range from $120-180 depending on the subject(s) and type of test being taken.

The ASC will also offer Praxis Audio Exams on July 25, 2023 for candidates who meet the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) disability requirements for audio exams.

Anyone wishing to schedule an exam can visit the ETS website here or go to https://www.ets.org/praxis/site/test-takers/schedule.html. You can also contact the ASC office at 479-788-7675 or email at asc@uafs.edu.
