UAFS Alumna Brings Urban Flair to Community
Nestled in the heart of Fort Smith, Grunge House is more than just a boutique; it’s a celebration of style and creativity. Owned and operated by UAFS alumna Jami Davis, '10, Grunge House offers an eclectic mix of modern fits and vintage clothing, perfect for anyone looking to add a touch of uniqueness to their wardrobe. However, Grunge House doesn't just sell clothes. Davis has carefully curated a fun selection of gifts, stickers, jewelry, home goods, accessories, and greeting cards.
For Davis, the most rewarding aspect of owning Grunge House is the ability to infuse Fort Smith with the vibrant culture and creativity of her favorite destinations, like Austin and Los Angeles. The boutique is a testament to her passion for unique fashion and commitment to bringing a slice of urban flair to the local community.
Davis credits the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith as pivotal to her entrepreneurial journey. The flexibility offered by UAFS allowed her to work full-time while pursuing her degree, a balance that, she said, has helped her develop crucial time management skills. These skills have proven indispensable in the day-to-day operations of Grunge House, enabling her to navigate the challenges of business ownership with confidence and efficiency.
Davis’ advice to UAFS students aspiring to own their own businesses is both inspiring and practical.
"Move forward in spite of fear,” she says. “Sometimes doors don't open for you unless you force them open."
Her journey from full-time student and worker to successful business owner underscores this message, proving how important perseverance and courage are in pursuing one’s dreams.
