University of Arkansas - Fort Smith employees and students won more than 30 accolades at the American Advertising Federation local chapter’s 2014 ADDY Awards held Feb. 22, highlighted by winning two Special Judges Awards.
The Marketing and Communications Office earned 12 professional division ADDYs for their work, including two Special Judges Awards, two gold awards, six silvers and two bronzes. UAFS students won 23 student division ADDYs, including one Special Judges Award, one Best in Show Award, five gold awards, 12 silvers and four bronzes.
Award winners in the professional division included UAFS employees Carl Hulsey, Laura Wattles, Jessica Martin and Champ Williams, all of Fort Smith, and Peter Cullum of Sallisaw. Fourteen UAFS students took home awards in the student division.
Hulsey, an interim co-department head of the Marketing and Communications Office, won two Special Judges Awards and two gold awards for the UAFS mobile application and a UAFS zombie T-shirt design. Additionally, Hulsey was awarded a silver award for his design of the College of STEM brochure.
Wattles, a graphic designer in the Marketing and Communications office, earned a silver award for her UAFS Viewbook and a bronze award for the book design of “UAFS: The First 85 Years.”
Cullum, an interim co-department head of Marketing and Communications, won silver awards for his Season of Entertainment brochure and poster for the men’s basketball team.
Also winning silver awards were Marketing Coordinator Jessica Martin and Champ Williams, a videographer with the Campus and Community Events Office, for their AACSB accreditation video. The Marketing and Communications Office earned a silver award for photos of the Boreham Library as well.
Brooke Cagle, a student graphic designer in the Marketing and Communications Office, won a silver award in the professional division for the design of the UAFS international newsletter. Jarrod Ramsey of Fort Smith also won an accolade in the professional division, notching a bronze award.

Fort Smith: Brooke Cagle, two gold awards, one Special Judges Award, one Best in Show Award; Kristina Davis, one bronze award; Ngoc Nguyen, two gold awards; Leonardo Padilla, one silver award; June Pham, one silver award; Kristin Phattong, one silver award; Jarrod Ramsey, one bronze award; Maegan Riley, one gold award; Trent Welbern, one silver award.
Muldrow, Okla.: Danielle Kling, two silver awards.
Van Buren: Lee Actkinson, three silver awards; Melina von Hacht, one bronze award.
The ADDY Awards are presented by the American Advertising Federation - Fort Smith chapter. They are the advertising industry’s annual awards ceremony to recognize excellence in advertising. Entries are based on creativity, originality and creative strategy. The AAF-Fort Smith chapter is part of District 10 of the national American Advertising Federation.
