The History Club at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will be conducting workshops throughout the summer on cemetery preservation for community members in the Fort Smith and northwest Arkansas areas.

 

Workshops will be held from 8 a.m.-noon June 10, June 24, July 8 and July 22 at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, located at 1401 S. Greenwood Ave. The workshops are designed for anyone intending to begin a cemetery preservation project and will help ensure proper preservation of tombstones.

 

Discussions will focus on current issues in cemetery preservation, such as recording and documenting cemeteries and graveyards, undertaking preservation efforts and exploring conservation techniques and issues.
