Although she hails from the Lone Star State, Audrey Legg found the home she was looking for at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.
A graduate of Texoma Christian School in Sherman, Texas, Legg said she began her college search close to home for schools where she could pursue a degree in sonography.
“I looked at many schools in Texas for a four-year degree in sonography but could not find any that interested me that were close enough to home,” she said. “I traveled all the way to the University of Missouri, which is nine hours away from home, looking for the perfect school for me.”
All her looking was over, however, once she spent some time in Fort Smith.
“As soon as our visit to UAFS was over, I knew this school was the one for me. Everyone was so kind to me and went out of their way to make sure that I felt welcomed.”
A freshman from Denison, Texas, Legg is enrolled in the radiography program, and she looks forward to applying for the sonography program when she is a junior and to graduating in 2021.
Among the things she likes on the UAFS campus are the personal relationships she has formed with her professors and other staff members. She names Angie Elmore and Casey Harmon as members of the radiography faculty who are invested in her success, and enrollment specialist Jennifer Holland and Tammy Conroe in financial aid as staff members who were always available for her.
Although Legg plans to return to Texas to be near family when she completes her degree, she hopes her future success will provide encouragement to all the people who have helped her in Fort Smith.
“As this journey through college goes on, I hope my professors and the people who continue to pour into me will see their hard work paid off,” she said. “I want to be the best I can be as a student and in my future career, and I hope that UAFS will continue to help me achieve that goal.”
