The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith has scheduled two more town halls in November for UAFS students and local residents to learn more about public service.
Senate Majority Leader Jim Hendren and Senate Minority Leader Keith Ingram will speak at noon Nov. 9 in room 129 of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th St. At noon Nov. 26, Reps. Marcus Richmond and Charles Blake will host a town hall in the Reynolds Room of the Campus Center.
At both town halls, legislators will discuss the importance of civility in public service and reflect on their respective experiences as lawmakers.
“These town halls are part of a ‘majority rule vs. minority rights’ series that aims at having a member of the Arkansas majority party share the stage with a member of the Arkansas minority party to not only highlight the importance of civility in public service, but to also share their respective experience in politics,” said Dr. Williams Yamkam, assistant professor of political science.
Yamkam added that he is hopeful that these town halls will help UAFS students and the public-at-large see the positive aspects of public service.
