Lt. Gov. Griffin to Host Town Hall March 3

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host a virtual town hall with Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3. Griffin will discuss his role as lieutenant governor as it pertains to the state government, the duties his office is responsible for, and what his priorities are in his current role. 

 

Griffin will also discuss the nature of campaigning for governor while still carrying out the job of a lieutenant governor and stress the importance of civic engagement. The virtual town hall is part of the Political Lion Series hosted by the UAFS Democracy Project.

 

"We very much appreciate the fact that Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin has agreed to carve out an hour out of his busy schedule to not only educate our students on the key facets of the job of a lieutenant governor but to also extol the virtues of civic engagement,” said Dr. Williams Yamkam, assistant professor of political science at UAFS. “This virtual town hall is part of our Political Lion Series that aims at showcasing the various key political figures who are leaders in our local, state, and federal governments. The goal of this series is for our students to be well informed about the arcane workings of the government and the political process so as to become more engaged citizens."

 

Griffin, a fifth-generation Arkansan and the youngest son of a minister and a teacher, was first elected lieutenant governor of Arkansas on Nov. 4, 2014, and re-elected for a second four-year term on Nov. 6, 2018. His focus while in office has included growing jobs through economic development, parental choice in education, and state government reform

 

From 2011 to 2015, Griffin served as the 24th representative of Arkansas’s Second Congressional District, serving on the House Committee on Ways and Means, the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Committee on Ethics, and the House Committee on the Judiciary. He also serves as deputy majority whip and assistant majority whip. 

 

Prior to his tenure in the House, Griffin served as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and special assistant to the president and deputy director of political affairs for Pres. George W. Bush.

 

Griffin, who holds the rank of colonel, has served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps for more than 23 years and currently serves as commander of the 134th Legal Operations Detachment (LOD) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
