Biology with Life Science Teacher Licensure (K-12)

Combine your love of life science with your passion for teaching with a degree in biology with teacher licensure. 

UAFS’s Bachelor of Science in biology with teacher licensure (grades 7-12) program provides an in-depth life sciences curriculum taught by accomplished faculty. The teacher licensure portion of the program blends advanced theory with hands-on experience to ensure you are prepared to lead your classroom upon graduation.

Earning your B.S. in biology with teacher licensure prepares you for a rewarding and challenging career as a life science educator. You'll have the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to be a middle school/high school science teacher.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for high school teachers is expected to keep pace with the general economy well through 2031. Application Procedure

There is a separate application process for biology with teacher licensure 7-12, and requirements for admission may change over time. Students must meet admission requirements current at the time of their final application for admission to the teacher education program. Information about the process will be communicated to the student by their advisor. Click here for admission requirements.


Program Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the biology program will be able to:

  • understand and apply scientific knowledge/concepts. 
  • design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data.
  • communicate effectively to a scientific as well as non-scientific audience.

Minors

This 20-hour program is designed for those who seek a basic understanding of biology. It provides a basis for advanced study. Courses includes Introduction to Cell Biology, Introduction to Organismal Biology, and General Biology, Microbiology, Zoology with accompanying laboratory courses.


Certificate of Proficiency

This 9-credit hour program provides curriculum designed for those in helping professions such as human services, health care organizations, educators, and others. Courses include Intermediate Spanish I, II, and Spanish for the Professions. Beginning Spanish I and II or required placement scores are prerequisites for Intermediate Spanish I.
